About AI-Powered Battlecard Creation
Playwise HQ’s AI-powered battlecard creation lets you generate comprehensive competitor profiles in minutes instead of hours. Simply enter a competitor’s company name and Playwise HQ’s AI will research the competitor, discover their products, and produce a fully populated battlecard complete with market positioning, strengths and weaknesses, objection handling, and win/loss themes.
You can choose between two AI modes depending on your needs:
- Standard Mode — Uses AI general knowledge on a competitor for fast, reliable results. Best for well-known companies where publicly available information is abundant.
- Advanced Mode— Uses live web search to gather current data. Provides more accurate, up-to-date intelligence – especially useful for lesser-known, fast-changing competitors or you want to be working from the latest available data.

What You Need to Know Before Creating a Battlecard with AI
User Role Requirements
- Only users with an Admin or Editor role in Playwise HQ can create battlecards with AI.
- If you do not see the “Add Competitor” button or the “Create with AI” option, contact your account administrator to request the appropriate role.
Subscription Plan and AI Mode Access
Your subscription plan determines which AI modes are available to you:
- Free plan — You can use Standard mode only. The Advanced mode toggle will be disabled, and clicking it will display an upgrade prompt.
- Trial plan — You have access to both Standard and Advanced modes for the duration of your trial. A banner will display how many days remain in your trial.
- Paid plan — You have full, unrestricted access to both Standard and Advanced modes.
Subscription Limits
- Your account’s subscription plan also determines the maximum number of battlecards you can create and the maximum number of products per battlecard.
- Free accounts are limited to 5 total battlecards with 1 product each. Paid accounts can create unlimited battlecards with unlimited products. During your initial 7 day trial period there are also no limits.
Enrich Company Profile
- Creating your Company Profile (either manually or with AI) provides the AI battlecard creation process with a richer foundation to build from.
- It is recommended you create your Company Profile before using the AI battlecard functionality to get the most accurate, up-to-date and personalized content for your sales team.
What the AI Generates
The AI will populate every section of the battlecard, including:
- Competitor description and website URL
- Market position fields (competitive threat, pricing strategy, growth trajectory, etc.)
- Strengths and weaknesses
- Key industries and customers
- Competitor products (with descriptions, strengths, and weaknesses)
- Objection handling (common objections and response strategies)
- Win themes and loss themes
After creation, you can review and edit any AI-generated content to ensure accuracy.
A Step by Step Guide on How to Create a Competitor Battlecard with AI in Playwise HQ
Follow these steps to use AI to generate one or more competitor battlecards in your Playwise HQ account.
Step 1: Navigate to the Create with AI Page
- Log in to your Playwise HQ account and go to your Dashboard.
- In the top navigation bar, click the “Add Competitor” button.
- A dropdown menu will appear. Click “Create with AI”.
This will open the Create Battlecards with AI page.
Step 2: Choose Your AI Mode
At the top of the page you will see a toggle to switch between Standard and Advanced mode.
- Standard — Uses AI general knowledge. Faster and best suited to well-known companies.
- Advanced — Uses live web search for deeper, more current intelligence. Provides the highest quality output and is great for complex competitors, new and emerging competitors or those with rapidly changing product lines and go to market strategies.
Select the mode that suits your needs. If you are on a Free plan, only Standard mode is available.
Step 3: Enter Competitor Details
For each competitor you want to create a battlecard for, fill in the following:
- Company Name (required) — Enter the competitor’s official company or brand name (e.g., “Salesforce”).
- Product Names (optional) — If you want the battlecard to focus on specific products, add them by clicking the “+” button next to the product field. Enter one product name per row (e.g., “Sales Cloud”). To remove a product, click the “-“ button next to it.
If you leave the product names empty, the AI will automatically discover and include the competitor’s key products.
Note (Advanced mode): In Advanced mode, the product field defaults to AI auto-discovery. You will see a message: “AI will auto-discover products”. If you prefer to specify products manually, click “Or manually specify products” to reveal the input fields.
In addition if you let Advanced Mode search for products automatically you will then be presented with a screen allowing you to select/deselect the products you want added to your battlecard.
Step 4: Add More Competitors (Optional)
To generate battlecards for multiple competitors in one batch:
- Click the “Add Another Competitor” button below the current competitor entry.
- Fill in the new competitor’s company name and optional product names.
- Repeat until you have added all the competitors you need.
You can add up to 10 competitors per batch. If you reach the limit, a warning will appear: “You can only add 10 competitor battlecards at a time.”
To remove a competitor from the batch, click the “Remove” button on its card.
Step 5: Generate the Battlecards
Once you have entered all your competitors, click the “Generate Battlecards” button at the bottom of the page.
A modal window will open showing the AI generation progress. What happens next depends on your selected AI mode.
Standard Mode: Generation Progress
In Standard mode, the AI processes each competitor and generates the battlecard directly.
What you will see:
- A progress bar showing how far along the generation is. If you submitted multiple competitors, you will see both an overall progress bar and a per-competitor progress bar.
- Status messages that update in real time, such as:
- “Researching competitors…”
- “Researching individual products…”
- “Compiling data for each battlecard…”
- “Generating battlecard…”
- “Battlecards ready…”
When generation is complete, a green checkmark will appear with the message “Battlecards Created Successfully!” You will be automatically redirected to your Dashboard after a few seconds.
Advanced Mode: Product Selection and Generation
In Advanced mode, the AI first analyses the competitor and discovers their products, then asks you to confirm which products to include before creating the battlecard.
Phase 1 — AI Analysis
The modal will show two parallel progress bars:
- Company Overview — The AI is researching the competitor’s profile, market position, strengths, and weaknesses.
- Product Discovery — The AI is searching the web to identify the competitor’s product portfolio.
Status messages update in real time as the AI works through each stage.
Phase 2 — Product Selection
Once product discovery is complete, a product selection screen appears:
- Each discovered product is displayed as a card showing:
- Product name and a brief description
- Importance level (Primary Product, Secondary Product, or Edge Product)
- AI confidence score (e.g., “Confidence: Very High (92%)”)
- A “Recommended” badge on products the AI is most confident about
- Products with high AI confidence are pre-selected for you. You can adjust the selection by checking or unchecking individual products.
- Use the “Select All” or “Deselect All” buttons to quickly adjust your selection.
Once you are satisfied with your selection, click “Confirm Selection” (or “Confirm & Next” if you are in a batch with more competitors to process).
Note: If no products were discovered, you will see a message: “No products were discovered.” You can still proceed to create the battlecard with the company overview information.
Phase 3 — Battlecard Creation
After confirming your product selection, the AI creates the battlecard. You will see a brief loading state: “Saving battlecard for [company]…”
On success, a green checkmark appears with the message “Battlecard Created Successfully!”
Note: In Advanced mode, detailed product analysis and additional competitive intelligence (such as win/loss themes and objection handling) continue to generate in the background after the battlecard is created. You can view the battlecard immediately, and this content will appear as it completes.
Step 6: Review the Results
For a single competitor: You will be automatically redirected to your Dashboard after a few seconds, where the new battlecard will appear.
For a batch of competitors: The modal tracks progress across all competitors. You will see:
- A numbered indicator showing which company is currently being processed (e.g., “2 of 5 companies”).
- Completed companies marked with a green checkmark.
- The current company highlighted with a progress spinner.
If a competitor fails during batch processing, you have three options:
- Retry — Attempt to generate that competitor’s battlecard again.
- Skip & Continue — Skip the failed competitor and move on to the next one.
- Cancel Batch — Stop processing entirely (battlecards already created will be preserved).
Once all competitors have been processed, the modal displays a summary and redirects you to the Dashboard.
Step 7: Edit and Refine Your Battlecards
After AI generation, each battlecard is saved and visible on your Dashboard. We recommend reviewing AI-generated content for accuracy:
- Click on a battlecard from your Dashboard to open it.
- Click the “Edit Battlecard” button to make changes to any section.
- Update, add, or remove information as needed.
- Save your changes.
AI-generated content is a starting point. Your team’s first-hand knowledge and experience will make the battlecard even more valuable.
